Beetroot competition & arise Uncle Nigel
At the reunion of the reunion committee and family there was the judging of the beetroot competition and the Queens Birthday the birth of a new son to Chun Yee Hop, Nigel Chun.
PRESENTATION OF CHUN CALLIGRAPHY & CHINESE NAME TO NIGEL MURPHY
Firstly I want to congratulate the Organizing Committee for what they know and feel was a tremendous success in running the Chun Reunion Event.
An event which has brought us together again for yet another event proving that us Chun’s are really great at partying.
And I use the word ‘feel’ because it was a great feeling of getting together.
I also believe that there has been a strong connection with the nephews and nieces of the past not to mention old friends and relatives that we had not seen for many a year.
The speech at the unspeechable Grand Century was one that I hoped never to repeat as it was pure agony having to fight my way to the end of it, but the decision to go again the next day at the Amazing 5 was just that..amazing..!!
Everyone seemed to hang onto every word spoken and it was very gratifying because the large audience was absorbing a big part of our history…of names never heard of …of things not known about.
We were able to honour our past elders and also our living.
You know, when you see a beautifully cut shirt or dress or suit it is the sum of the parts that made it look good…and it is the fine but strong stitching that holds it together.
You were all the stitching that held the dress together.
So thank you again Committee and others as Doris who if we were without it would not have been as it was.
2.
The famous Chinese philosopher Lao Tse said “ Work is done and then forgotten”..it is a way of Nature but it means much more than that.
Nature quietly creates and provides all for mankind and asks for nothing in return.
Our knowledgeable friend Nigel Murphy Chun is very much like that.
He has done much and asked for nothing in return.
Over the years he has used a spade so long and dug so deep into the Chun Family history it is a wonder that the end of the spade has not shown through at our old
Village in China.
At the reunion we had the master calligrapher Stan Chan brush the character ‘Chun’ onto a red board and like the pieces of that dress fitting together all the elements of a presentation of that character lead to Nigel…a Chun by name and a Chun by Nature..!!
Tonight we are pleased to present that character to Nigel as a small token of thanks.
Another honour is the presentation of Nigel with an adopted Chinese name.
I would have named him Chun Gwuck Dor De Lar which means something like “Dig A Bit More Deeper Mr Chun” but I understand Doris has a name which is probably a bit more elegant than mine…and I give you Doris to present Nigel with the painting and his adopted name.
Thank you.
Stan Chun
