In August 2010, Aunty Ina (Anna), loved wife of Percy H C Wong, and mum to Lindsay, Linda, Michael, Jackson (Peter) and Wesley, passed away. Aunty Ina was the fifth child of Chun Yee Hop and Wun Choy Lin. She was born on 9 March 1921 at the family fruitshop at 144 Lambton Quay, Wellington. Her Chinese name was Mei Ling, named after Chiang Kai Shek's wife.
When Aunty was eight the family returned to China. She was 17 before she came back to New Zealand - joining her older sisters who had already returned to the safety of home away from war-torn China.
Aunty Ina settled back in New Zealand and was soon married to the distinguished Percy H C Wong. Many remember their lovely home in Western Springs, and Percy's apothecary shop at the top end of Queen Street.
Supported by her loving family, Aunty stayed in her home until almost the very end. I'm sure that's exactly the way she would have wanted it. Rest in peace Aunty . . .
