Cute, crafty, yummy, heavenly . . . tiny little scones and cakes, pots of tea with knitted cosies, china cups and matching cake plates.
Today I had the BEST time at Martha's Pantry at the top of Cuba Street. Some workmates and I went for a special high tea to farewell a colleague who's going on her big OE.
It was utterly adorable from start to finish, and just the sort of thing for Chun aunties, mums, daughters and aunties-in-training.
All VERY girly. Think tiny cupcakes frosted in deep pink and sprinkled with crumpled rose petals, and little club sandwiches with egg and cress fillings. (And yes, they do a wide range of gluten-free so I was able to scoff my way through nine pieces!! Actually I stopped at six - couldn't fit any more in.)
So who's keen for a little bit of afternoon tea? Let me know if you're interested and we can make a booking. It's pretty small and popular so it pays to book.
The cost is $20 and the five of us who went today got three different pots of tea (you choose from a menu), and two three-tiered cake stands packed with cakes and sandwiches.
They open weekdays and Saturdays until 2pm, so I guess we'd be looking at the Saturday time. Perhaps we can plan for a date in July - after our lunch for Julia and Paddy?

Cor - what a massive instant response!! Thanks for the e-mails guys.
Ling: Yes - totally bring Steve. The two guys in our party were English and they soooo loved it. The place only holds about 25 people max. So it's perfectly possible for us to book it out. And I'm told they open specially if we make a big booking. So maybe they'll open for us on a Sunday. That would be more convenient for most of us I think.
The date of 27/28 sounds about right. I'll ring and ask about booking, dates, numbers etc.
Mum: no they don't have little sausage rolls. I was only eating the gluten free stuff - but the stuff I had in the savoury line was a sort of mini hot toasted thing with beetroot and some sort of corned meat, a little mini pizza, an egg and lettuce / cress club sandwich, and a frittata.
Ken: By the way - this is VERY Aunty Doris. I'm really hoping she can come. And perhaps you can bring Jillian?
Bev: When I went I totally thought of you and Natasha. I thought Tash would love it, although she's probably been there tons of times - being young and fashionable.
Uncle Stan: Well, I didn't think that tea and tiny cakes was quite your thing. But I was hoping you might pass the invite on to Helen. She's always in for a good laugh with the girls.

Oops - that should be 25/26 July. Good spotting Ken and Ling.
